DESTROYER, DISGRACE, 2020
SCREENPRINT MONOPRINT SERIES
18 x 24
A rapid descent of American values has made me ashamed of the United States. Unabashed individualism and a lack of accountability cripple and expose the fault lines of our said "democracy." This work exposes the character for what he is: a destroyer and a disgrace. These prints serve as commentary and therapy. I physically altered the official presidential portrait image positives through sanding, tearing, chemical erasing, and adding aggressive marks on top. The layers were assembled through the process of screenprinting, altered enough, the image no longer appears dignified. There was a pleasure mixed with a numbness felt through repetition and the process of erasure. I screen printed each altered layer with different grays and bright reds in a multitude of orders to sculpt a more unequivocal portrait of our 45th President of the United States.
